Cravings

I tossed around the thought about being vegan for year before I finally took the leap. My biggest concern was dairy products. I am a lover of all things cheese and many of my favorite foods contained cheese. I worried that if I craved these things, I would never be able to continue as vegan. I also worried about my sweet tooth. Cookies, ice cream, and chocolate are a huge weakness of mine and it was difficult to think about giving them up for good. Well, I have a really awesome surprise for those of you that had the same fears as me… You aren’t going to be giving up your sweet treats or your favorite cheesy dishes. You can still eat macaroni and cheese, ice cream, cookies, mayonnaise… but they will be more earth-sustaining and healthy options.

My husband is a huge mayonnaise fan. This was one of the issues he had when switching to a vegan diet. Lucky for him, I found an AMAZING vegan chipotle mayonnaise recipes and he loved it! (and so did I – a mayo hater)

I had been craving cookies for a week and yesterday we found some vegan cookies (on accident) at our local Wegmans and they were so delicious.

Sometimes my cravings aren’t as specific. Sometimes I will just crave something sweet. In those cases I begin my mission to curb my cravings in a whole food way. I am going to give you some examples and solutions that I have found help me break my cravings:

Craving Alternative
Chocolate bar Apple with Peanut Butter
Sugary cereal with milk Rolled oats with almond milk and banana
Ice cream Frozen banana ice cream
Nachos Corn tortilla chips with salsa, guacamole, and nutritional yeast
Bagel with Cream Cheese Whole wheat bagel with vegan cream cheese

Some other snacks I really love are sweet potato toast with guacamole, chickpea salad, and seasoned baked chickpeas. One of my favorite salad dressings is now balsamic vinegar and I would argue it’s better than the dressings I used to use.

There are so many options available and so many ways to curb your cravings. Don’t let fear of failure stop you from making more health-conscious decisions.

Would you like to see specific recipes on my blog that you can try at home? I have learned so many recipes that aren’t just great vegan food, but are great food in general and I would love to share them with you.

Fuel your body with real food while loving the body you currently have. It’s not about where you want to be, it’s about the journey you are taking now toward a healthier life.

Love Always,

Elizabeth
